Is the Spanish surname Medina of Arabic, Sephardic Jewish origin, or both?

I always umed it would be Arabic due to the city of Medina being the second holiest city in Islam and the Arabic Moors who invaded Spain long ago, yet I read elsewhere on the internet that it was Jewish-based due to Jews wanting to keep a low profile while living in Spain during Moorish rule. Which is it? Could it be either or?
