Help needed with DVD recorder?

i have just got a new LCD tele and a free DVD recorder with it and i need to no how the hellyou get the DVD to work lol i have tryed everythink an cant figer it out im trying to go it so i can record of my virgin media and jsut cant figer it out help please its driving me made all i can get it to do it play dvds lol
