Why did the Austro-Hungarian empire dissolve?

The people that the Austro-Hungarian empire controlled resented the Austrian leaders. This would include the Slavs of Yugoslavia. A Serbian killed the Austrian Arch-Duke and this lead to World War I. The Treaty of Versailles called for people to determine who they wanted to govern them.
